Jumping Into 2022 With Optimism and Vigor

Assisted living leadership

The New Year is here with 2021 behind us and 2022 beginning. The past two years have brought unprecedented times which future history books will detail. Although times have been unique and trying for people around the world, we can look to 2022 with optimism, hope, and vigor. Throughout all of it, The Cottages team remained optimistic, innovative, and was always ready to take on whatever came their way, with the well-being of the residents and team members as the top propriety. The team held engaging, fun activities, utilized and created safe ways for family members and residents to interact, and built team comradery through support and appreciation.

We wish you the best in 2022 and encourage all to look to the future with positivity and hope! Here are a few reflections and thoughts from our CEO, Mark Maxfield.

New Year’s Message from The Cottages Senior Living CEO, Mark Maxfield

Let me extend a great, big, hearty hello to all of you who find yourself reading this message from The Cottage’s first newsletter of the new year. I hope your Christmas, New Year and whole entire holiday season was everything you hoped it would be. Like me, I suspect you quietly made a few plans to yourself about how you ‘hope’ your 2022 will go.  I say quietly because also like me, I suspect you made big and grand declarations of how your 2019, 2020, and then 2021 were going to pan out and perhaps you were let down in an epic fashion.  Don’t get me wrong, we experienced a lot of great things here at The Cottages during those years, and still managed to impact many lives for the better, but I also must admit in general, we’ve all experienced a rough couple of years.  Looking back, we have had some incredible experiences and learned a ton, but I’m ready to have a year where at the end of it, we all look back at it fondly.  I sum it up best when I recall something a wise friend told me about what her Vietnam Veteran father once reminisced about the war.  “It was a million-dollar experience that I wouldn’t pay a nickel to do again.”  I think that accurately captures our 2020/2021.  Not one to harbor on the negative for too long, let me state once again, that here at The Cottages, our incredible caregivers, administrators, office staff, and yes, family members all rallied together like never before and still delivered the absolute best in assisted living and witnessed some life-changing experiences. That is why I, albeit tentatively, have nothing but the most positive outlook of which I am capable, that 2022 will yet prove to be another fantastic year filled with fun, hard work, maybe a few disappointments and setbacks, but even more opportunities to make new friends, attain new goals, and still stay anxiously engaged in what I think is nothing short of the Lord’s work.  I’m talking about assisted living and memory care for the elderly.  A calling that all of us here at The Cottages take extremely seriously!  With a mission statement as simple yet enduring as “We Treat People Right”, this drives us in all our decisions and interactions with everyone we meet.  Thank you for this opportunity and thank you for the part you play in our lives.  We love and appreciate you.  So, here’s to a new year, a new commitment, and indeed a new opportunity to do what we love.  2022!  It’s your year for the claiming.  Now go make it a great one!

Resolutely yours,

Mark Maxfield, CEO
