Assisted living leadership

Company culture is at the top of the mind of our CEO, Mark Maxfield. As he would say, company culture is what enables teams of people to defy the odds and achieve the remarkable. Company culture is not taken lightly at The Cottages Senior Living. Every long-term care program, training, and team collaboration meeting is centered around building a positive and healthy company culture.

Why Is Company Culture So Important At The Cottages Assisted Living & Memory Care?

Company culture is the patterns, practices, thinking, and behavior that is recognized and promoted at an organization. Culture touches every facet of a business. It impacts employee training and the care that is given to the residents. Culture influences the attitudes that the caregivers, administrators, activities directors, maintenance workers, and home office members exude. Simply put, company culture is a big deal and The Cottages Senior Living’s leadership and team recognize this!

Here are some statistics that reinforce why company culture matters:

  • 46% of job seekers say company culture is very important when they are applying for a job.
  • 47% of active job seekers say company culture is their main reason for looking for work.
  • 91% of managers say a candidate’s alignment with the company culture is just as important as their skills and experience.
  • 35% of employees would give up a perfect job if they felt the culture, was not a good fit.
  • 24% of employees have a higher chance of quitting if they do not like the company culture.
  • Most of the workforce state that job quality matters more than how much they are being paid.
  • 88% of team members believe strong company culture is directly tied to a business’s success.

How Does the Cottages Senior Living Promote a Positive Company Culture?

The Cottages leadership recognizes that company culture is not built overnight and can take years to develop. Further, it is something that must always be nurtured. Our assisted living homes ought to be cleaned and maintained to stay inviting and well kept, so must our company culture.

There are several ways that The Cottages leadership promotes a positive company culture. These include:

  • Knowing and reinforcing the company values at the home office and each individual location. Not only are the company values posted for all to see at each location, but they are also frequently taught and reinforced.
  • Monthly new employee orientation where the company values and expectations are explained and established. Our new employee orientation allows new team members to meet the home office team and receive specialized training.
  • Employee recognition and appreciation occurs on a regular basis at the home office and location level. It is a common occurrence for team members to receive recognition for things such as work anniversaries, exemplifying superior work ethic, helping their team members out, and providing exceptional care to the residents and their loved ones.
  • Monthly leadership meetings where company leaders collaborate, train, and support one another. Each member of the home office team, location administrators, and often assistant administrators can learn from each other, address challenges, share innovative strategies, and reinforce The Cottages comradery.
  • Monthly location team meetings where the team members come together to recognize one another, learn new strategies and techniques, and brainstorm on how to best meet the needs of the residents. Each location holds monthly meetings with their team members which allows them to grow, support, and help one another.
  • Yearly annual meeting where team members join in reviewing the past year are trained on new strategies and techniques, set goals for the upcoming year, and participate in team-building activities.

These activities and more result in a strong, cohesive company culture within our Senior Living homes. We know that as our team members are taken care of, trained, and given support, they in turn will provide exceptional, loving care to our assisted living and memory care residents. At the end of the day, The Cottages leadership desires to have the team and residents feel supported, strengthened and cared for.
