They also assist with medication management which entails administering medications as prescribed, keeping accurate records, and monitoring for any side effects. Other responsibilities include assisting with meal preparation and feeding, when necessary, performing light housekeeping, and providing emotional support by engaging with residents in conversation and activities. Caregivers monitor and report any change in residents’ health status to supervisors and appropriate medical personnel, and ensure the safety of the residents by following proper protocols.  

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN)

Nurses play a vital role in senior living. As an LPN or RN in a senior living community, they provide high-quality nursing care to residents, ensuring their medical needs are met with professionalism and compassion. They collaborate with other healthcare professionals, support residents’ families, and contribute to a safe and nurturing environment.

They also maintain accurate and timely documentation of nursing care, resident progress, and any incidents in the electronic health records system. Other responsibilities include providing education and support to residents and their families about health conditions, treatments and care plans, implementing and adhering to infection control protocols to protect residents and staff, and supervising and supporting nursing assistants and other care staff so that they perform their duties correctly and efficiently.

Activities Coordinator or Quality of Life Coordinator

The Activities Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of engaging activities and programs for senior living residents. This role is essential in promoting social interaction, physical activity, mental stimulation, and contributing to the overall well-being and quality of life of the residents.

The Activities Coordinator’s responsibilities include designing and scheduling a diverse range of activities and events including arts and crafts, games, fitness classes, educational workshops, and social gatherings. They encourage resident participation by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment and tailoring activities to meet the interests, abilities, and needs of individual residents. They will also organize special events such as holiday celebrations, themed parties, outings, and guest presentations, ensuring all events run smoothly and are well-attended. Activities Coordinator’s keep accurate records of activities, attendance, and resident participation, and prepare reports on program effectiveness and resident feedback. They will also train and supervise volunteers and part-time staff involved in activities, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs.

Administrator or Executive Director

If you enjoy leadership, staff development, operations, compliance, and senior safety, an Administrator or Executive Director position is ideal. The Administrator / Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of a senior living community. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality care and services, maintains regulatory compliance, and fosters a positive environment for residents, families, and staff.

Some of the core responsibilities of the Administrator/Executive Director include providing strong leadership and direction to all community staff, and fostering a culture of teamwork, respect, and excellence. They oversee daily operations, ensuring the community runs smoothly and efficiently and they address any issues promptly and effectively. Administrators develop and manage the community’s budget, monitor financial performance, control costs, and ensure financial sustainability. One of their primary responsibilities is to ensure that high standards of care and services are provided to residents. They oversee the development and implementation of resident care plans, staff development, community relations, quality assurance, safety and risk management, strategic planning, and marketing and admissions. 

Maintenance Technician

If you know how to problem solve, can fix all types of appliances and do minor repairs, a maintenance technician job may fill your bucket. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the safety, functionality, and aesthetics of the senior living community. This role involves addressing the needs of residents and staff, maintaining the physical property, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Some common duties include performing routine maintenance and repairs on the community’s buildings, equipment, and grounds such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting. A technician will conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on systems and equipment to ensure optimal functioning and prevent breakdowns. They respond to maintenance emergencies promptly and effectively and may provide on-call support for after-hours emergencies as needed. They maintain an inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment and order necessary materials and ensure proper storage and organization. Maintenance Technicians work closely with other maintenance staff, management, and external contractors to coordinate maintenance activities and projects.

Accounting Clerk

Every organization needs financial and operational support, which is why accounting clerks are a great addition to a senior living organization. The Accounting Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and financial tasks to support the senior living community’s financial operations. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and providing administrative support to the finance department.

Their main duties and responsibilities include processing and verifying invoices, code expenses, preparing payment checks, ensuring timely payment of vendor invoices, and maintaining accurate AP records. They prepare and send out billing statements to residents, families, or responsible parties, record payments received, and follow up on outstanding accounts. An Accounting Clerk will assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts, and provide support for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.

Community Liaison or Marketing Coordinator

The Community Liaison is responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships between the senior living community and external partners, including healthcare providers, referral sources, families, and the broader community. The day to day activities of a community liaison include establishing and maintaining strong relationships with healthcare providers, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, social workers, and other referral sources. They actively engage with the local community through networking events, presentations, and meetings to promote the senior living community and its services. Community Liaisons assist potential residents and their families through the admissions process, provide tours, information, support, follow up with inquiries, and maintain a database of prospective residents. Other responsibilities include providing educational presentations and resources on senior living options, healthcare topics, and services offered by the community to the public and referral sources. They also maintain accurate records of outreach activities, referral sources, marketing efforts, and prepare regular reports on outreach and occupancy rates.
