The Cottages of Payette’s History

The Cottages of Payette’s history is fascinating! The Cottages Assisted Living and Memory Care was founded in 2001 in the rural town of Emmett, Idaho. The community was so welcoming and in need of what The Cottages had to offer, that they opened another location in the town of Weiser just one year later. It became obvious that the surrounding communities, especially the rural towns, were in need of assisted living and memory care that was provided in a personalized way.

The Cottages of Payette’s History

Once The Cottages of Weiser was built, the owners, Garold and Mark Maxfield, set their eyes on a community not too far from Weiser. In fact, it was only fourteen miles away. The next Cottages senior living would be The Cottages of Payette, which is located at 1481 7th Avenue North.

The Cottages of Payette was built in 2002 and consists of one home for 16 residents. The Payette Cottages provides assisted living, memory care, respite, and adult daycare. The caring and competent staff and homelike environment create a unique and healthy environment for the residents. The Cottages of Payette very quickly built a strong reputation for providing exceptional care, especially for those who suffer from dementia, and they continue to hold this positive reputation today.

The Unique Attributes of The Payette Community

The first settler in the Payette area was David S. Lamme who arrived in 1864. He named the area “Boomerang”.  In 1884, the name of the area was changed to Payette. Payette city was officially incorporated in the year 1891. Within a decade, the city had grown to 1,948 people. Individuals were attracted to the area for railroad, mining, and factory work. One hundred and thirty two years later, the population has grown to approximately 26,956 people.

The Payette area is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and nature, which people regularly enjoy and explore. Some of the main attractions are the Payette River Greenbelt, Farewell Bend State Recreation Area, Payette Municipal Swimming Pool, Scotch Pines Golf Course, Centennial Park, Payette County Museum, Babby Farms, and the Payette County Fair. The residents of The Cottages frequently visit these popular attractions that they have enjoyed throughout their lives, continuing to do so while residing at The Cottages. In fact, Babby Farms is a popular destination not only for The Cottages of Payette residents, but other neighboring Cottages residents as well. The residents at The Cottages enjoy participating in the Payette parades each year, and have even won best float several times. Payette is in proximity to neighboring towns such as Weiser, Fruitland, and Ontario Oregon.
